Week 6 at Little Stars

Today in Little Stars we continued to talk about the Christmas Story and we added the characters to our stables from last week. We each drew Mary, Joseph and Jesus and glued them in our stables. We talked about how Christmas Day is Jesus’ birthday. For our goodbye song we sang ‘Happy Birthday Jesus’.

Here are some pictures of some of our Little Stars engaging in their morning activities this morning.

Visiting the COLA

Today in Little Stars we walked up to the COLA. The COLA is an outside undercover basketball court. This is the place where we will be having our Nativity Christmas Carols Night!

Today we also joined with the Reception students again to sing our two Christmas songs in the Recpetion/Year 1 classroom.

We started talking about the Christmas Story today in group time. We talked about how our school is called ‘Nativity’ because of this Christmas Story. We talked about the characters in the story, Mary, Joseph, Jesus, angels, shepherds, wise men and the animals. We talked about what a ‘stable’ was and started making out ‘Nativity Scene’ craft by using pop-sticks to make the stable.

Learning about Remembrance Day

Today in Little Stars we talked about Remembrance Day.

We looked at the clock and it was 11 o’clock. We also talked about how today was November the 11th and about how we live in a country called Australia.

We watched a clip on Youtube about what happened many years ago at 11 o’clock on November the 11th and how every year we stop and remember the soldiers who fought for Australia in the wars so that our country can be a safe and peaceful place to live.

We made our own poppies out of paper and some of us wore them home.

Learning some special songs!

Today in Little Stars we joined with the current Receptions to begin to learn our 2 Christmas songs for the Nativity Carols Night. We liked going into the Reception classroom and sitting next to some of the Reception children and also seeing some of the current Reception teachers again this week.

We have been talking about how we will be ‘big’ kids when we come to school next year. Being a ‘big’ kid means that we do somethings for ourselves like packing and unpacking our bags. Today in group time we talked about the things we might pack in our school bag when we come to school and then practiced our cutting and gluing skills to cut out pictures of a hat, drink bottle, lunchbox and a reader and glued them on a school bag picture.

Our Visit to the Church

Today in Little Stars we went with Mrs Black and we visited the Church.

When we come to school we will go to Church with our class.

Some of us have been to Church with our families or friends.

Some of the things we saw in the Church were the chairs, the statue of Jesus, the big cross and the Baptismal Font where the water goes on the baby’s head at a Baptism.

Today in Little Stars we visited the Reception/1 classrooms and the current Reception students. We listened to a story all together and met two teachers who work at Nativity called ‘Mrs King’ and ‘Mrs Quinn’. We will visit the Receptions and some of the Nativity teachers each week as a part of our transition program this term.

Our Teddy Bear’s Picnic!

Today we had our teddy bear’s picnic during Little Stars! What a special event it was! The children brought along their teddy bears or soft toys and helped cut up our fruit to share on a fruit platter together.

We wore our teddy bear headbands which we made last week and we also made Teddy Bear Food Faces using bread, banana and sultanas. At the end of the picnic we watched a short movie called ‘The Teddy Bear’s Picnic’.

Thank you for a wonderful Term 3, we hope you all have a safe and happy holiday break and we look forward to see all of our Little Stars again in Term 4!

Visiting the Pilgrim Early Years Playground and the Nature Play Space

Today in Little Stars we visited the Pilgrim Early Years Playground and also the Nature Play Space. Both of these playgrounds are on our Campus. The children can play on the Pilgrim playground once they come to school during recess and lunch times and the Nature Play Space is used during outside lesson times. During group time today we talked about symmetry and painted our own butterflies. Come and have a look at them hanging up in our classroom next week! They look sensational! file1-4-1 file1-5 file-5 file5-3

Visiting the Canteen and making a Spider Web

Today when we went on our ‘tour’ around the Campus, we visited the canteen. We meet Maggie who works in the canteen and we learnt about how to line up if we would like to buy something. Maggie showed us a green ‘lunch order box’ which is where we put our lunch order bags if we have a lunch order when we come to school.

In group time today we talked about spiders. We made a class spider web using wool which was part of a game where we were learning to say other people’s names. We also practiced our counting skills when we made our own spider webs using a paper plate and some wool, and we counted the correct number of spiders on our web.
